Mittelburgenland, at the heart of Austria’s red wine country, is also known as ”Blaufränkischland”, affectionately named for its predominant indigenous black grape variety. Austria’s red wine pioneer, Hans Igler, made history as he lay the fundament for the high level of wine culture practiced in this winegrowing area today. Waltraud and Wolfgang Reisner-Igler now follow in his footsteps and have gained international recognition for their flagship blend ”Ab Ericio”.

Winery History: Founded in 1960 by Hans Igler and his wife Maria. Set new quality standards as a red wine pioneer in the early 1980’s with a special focus on Blaufränkisch. Ground-breaking use of small oak barrels in the region (first maturation in 1981 in used barrels from Chateau Latour in Bordeaux). Hans Igler’s motto was, ”Stagnation is a step backwards,” and the winery continues to strive for constant improvement today.

Our Philosophy: Quality begins in the vineyard. Restricted yields through shoot and crop thinning combined with a high and well-aerated canopy result in fully ripe quality fruit. A late and gentle harvest and conscientious vinification are the fundaments for the high quality of our typical regional wines.

Our Goal: We strive to achieve the international recognition that the special character and quality of wines from Blaufränkischland deserve.
