The Wines

Red wines are Waltraud and Wolfgang Reisner-Igler’s specialty. Particular focus is given the autochthon variety Blaufränkisch and rounded out by the varieties Zweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Merlot. The range of red wines is complemented by a small selection of whites from the Burgundian grapes, Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay.

A late and gentle harvest, restricted yields, and conscientious vinification in a modernly equipped facility with temperature-controlled fermentation are the preconditions for the quality the Hans Igler wines represent.

Blaufränkisch
Typical regional red wine; dark garnet red with a distinct blackberry nose and fruit-driven palate.

Blaufränkisch Ried Hochberg
Single-vineyard wine; dark berry aroma; deep, pure varietal fruit character with soft tannins and intense finish.

Vulcano
Blend dominated by Blaufränkisch and Cabernet Sauvignon; spicy fruit on the nose with a sappy, juicy palate.

Ab Ericio
The flagship blend takes its name from a play on the family name. Igel is German for ”hedgehog”, and Ab Ericio is Latin for ”from the hedgehog”. This wine displays a deep blackberry fruit aroma; compact and powerful with wonderfully integrated tannins and elegant, velvety structure on the palate; long, intense finish.
