The Hans Igler Estate has been a guarantee for wine culture of the highest level for many years. Hans Igler lay the fundament for this reputation when he made Austrian wine history as a red wine pioneer. Waltraud and Wolfgang Reisner-Igler continue in his ground-breaking path with a new flagship blend ”Ab Ericio”.

A Classic of Austrian Red Wine Culture

The Hans Igler Estate’s 25 hectares of vineyards are located near the village of Deutschkreutz in central Burgenland, also known as ”Blaufränkischland”, the heart of Austria’s red wine country.
Sandy clay and gravel soils together with the mild Pannonian climate bring forth exceptional red wines and full-bodied whites. Waltraud Reisner-Igler and Wolfgang Reisner specialize in red wines, focusing on the indigenous variety Blaufränkischland rounding this out with Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Merlot. The whites are limited to the Burgundian varieties Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay, which thrive best in this area.

A late and gentle harvest, restricted yields, and conscientious vinification in a modernly equipped facility with temperature-controlled fermentation are the foundation for the high quality of wines from the Hans Igler Estate. The Blaufränkisch Hochberg, the Cabernet Sauvignon from the Ried Kart vineyard and the prestigious blend of Blaufränkisch, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zweigelt, and Merlot called Vulcano are all Igler wines that have come to be known as synonymous with quality.

New Architecture for the Wine

To further meet the demands of quality, Waltraud and Wolfgang Reisner-Igler engaged the architect Anton Mayerhofer to design a representative structure for the Hans Igler Estate wines. The winery has been enlarged and remodeled to fulfill market demands and now includes a tasting room, sales rooms, and a separate cellar for maturation in barrique.

The opening ceremonies for the recently finished architectural project were held in September 2002. The respected wine author Viktor Siegel commentated a vertical tasting of the best Igler Estate Cabernet Sauvignons. Literary and culinary treats were enjoyed together with jazz music and a relaxed atmosphere in typical Igler style.
